In short
- "Steam code generator" and "free wallet code list" pages do not give codes; most are fake login screens built to steal Steam accounts.
- According to Valve, Steam gift cards are only redeemable on Steam; if a stranger wants to be paid with one, you are most likely being targeted by a scam.
- A wallet code without paying: complete tasks paid for by advertisers, convert the GG you collect into a Steam wallet code and redeem it on Steam's official redeem page.
No generator or "working code list" gives free Steam wallet codes: a wallet code is a single-use code activated when sold, and a web page cannot create one. According to Valve, Steam gift cards only work on Steam, and anyone asking to be paid with them is likely a scammer. The real way without paying is to exchange task points for a code; in GiftGame they accumulate as GG.
What Valve says
According to Valve's "Gift Card Scams" page, scammers use gift cards from major brands like Steam to take advantage of people all over the world: they call victims, pressure them into buying gift cards to cover taxes, bail, debts or the "delivery" of sweepstakes winnings, and then ask them to read out the code or send a photo of it. Valve's warning is clear:
- Steam Wallet gift cards can only be redeemed on Steam; their value can only be spent on games, in-game items, software and hardware.
- If someone contacts you to pay them in Steam Wallet gift cards, you are most likely being targeted by a scam.
- Never give a Steam Wallet gift card to a person you do not know.
According to Valve's Steam Wallet FAQ, wallet funds cannot be moved or gifted to another Steam account. So any offer to "transfer your balance to us and we will load double" or to "check your code for you" already contradicts these rules.
The real way: do tasks, collect GG, convert to a Steam wallet code
Someone has to pay for the wallet code. In rewards apps the advertiser pays: a game studio pays to win new players, a research company pays for survey answers; you complete the task and the app passes your share on as points. In GiftGame:
- Install the app and create an account.
- Choose from game and app tasks on the offerwalls, market research surveys in the survey section, mini games, the wheel or the daily reward.
- Meet the task's condition; once the partner reports it, the GG is credited to your balance.
- Pick the Steam wallet code reward and the amount that fits your account from the catalog; the GG is deducted and your request goes for approval.
- After approval the code arrives as a message in your in-app inbox; in your web account it opens with "Show code".
How tasks work is explained in earning game codes by completing tasks, and every way to earn is in how to earn GG. Options that need no code at all, such as free-to-play games and time-limited giveaways, are covered in how to get free Steam games.
Redeem the wallet code
The flow from Valve's Steam Wallet FAQ (detailed guide):
- Log in to your Steam account and open the "Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code" page.
- Enter the code in the Steam Wallet Code field.
- Click Continue; the value is added to your wallet balance.
According to Valve, the code is redeemed in the currency of your Steam wallet, so the amount on the code and the amount added to your balance can look different because of the exchange rate.
If the code gives an error
Valve says most wallet code errors come from characters that look alike and suggests trying these swaps:
| What you typed | Valve's suggested alternative |
|---|---|
| The number 0 | The letter Q, O or D |
| The number 1 | The letter I |
| The letter O | The number 0, or the letters Q or D |
| The letter B | The number 8 |
| The letter G | The number 6 |
Copying the code from your inbox avoids most of these mistakes. If the code still does not work, write to support in the GiftGame app with your order number, and never share the code in any chat.
Cards on store shelves
Valve says it has ended the Steam gift card program in retail stores because of scams, expects retailers to run out of stock by the end of 2026, and continues to offer digital Steam gift cards. According to Valve, you can still use physical cards you already have, subject to local laws. Be extra careful with private messages offering "the last cards, at half price".

Frequently asked questions
Are free Steam wallet code sites real?
No. A wallet code is a single-use code activated when it is sold; generator and "working code list" pages do not give codes, and most are fake login screens trying to steal Steam accounts.
How do I get a Steam wallet code without paying?
By completing tasks and surveys paid for by advertisers and converting the points into a Steam wallet code. In GiftGame those points accumulate as GG; after approval the code arrives in your inbox.
Someone asked me to pay them with a Steam gift card. What should I do?
Do not pay. According to Valve, Steam gift cards can only be redeemed on Steam and anyone asking to be paid with them is most likely a scammer; never give a card to someone you do not know.
Can I move my Steam wallet balance to another account?
No. According to Valve, wallet funds cannot be moved or gifted to another Steam account, so offers to transfer balances are misleading.
My code says it is invalid. What should I do?
According to Valve, check the characters: try Q, O or D instead of zero, I instead of one, 8 instead of B and 6 instead of G. If it still fails, contact GiftGame support with your order number.
